Pro-warm up programs are necessary in neuromuscular preparedness and performance optimization during high-intensity training. Although conventional dynamic warm-up regimes have been commonly used, yoga-based warm-up regimes have been under consideration due to the possible enhancement of their capacities in promoting flexibility and neuromuscular coordination and cognitive attention. The current research focuses on the efficiency of a warm-up program based on yoga on muscle engagement, reaction time, and sprint speed in competitive college athletes. The random assignment of the XX athletes was to one of the following groups: yoga-based warm-up and conventional dynamic warm-up. The measures of performance were assessed by surface electromyography (sEMG) to determine muscle activity of lower limbs, a computerized visual reaction-time test, and a 30-m sprint test using electronic timing gates. The findings indicate that there was a significant improvement in muscle activation patterns (p < 0.05) in athletes who did the yoga-based warm-up with higher EMG amplitude and sooner activation of the important muscle groups of the lower limbs. Also, there was statistically significant difference of reaction-time in yoga warm-up group (p < 0.05), which is better cognitive-motor responsiveness. The sprint evaluation showed that Sprint assessment demonstrated significant enhancement in acceleration, and total 30-m performance of athletes who had undergone a conventional dynamic warm-up. Such results imply that yoga-based movement programs as a pre activity intervention can be proposed as an efficient alternative warm-up strategy that can result in increased neuromuscular efficiency, cognitive preparedness and sport-specific explosive performance. The research provides the use of yoga-based warm-up regiments in the sport training to maximize the short-term, high-intensity performance results.
