Abstract

The modern food distribution system has made food safety and supply chain transparency two of the main concerns because of the growing frequency of food contamination, food counterfeit, and ineffective traceability systems. Traditional centralized traceability methods are usually characterized by low levels of transparency, slow information dissemination, and prone to information frauds, thus diminishing consumer confidence and reliability in the operations. In order to overcome these obstacles, this paper will put forward a blockchain-based food traceability system that aims to enhance the safety of food tracking, guaranteeing the security of transactions and supply chain visibility in real time. The environmental monitoring system proposed will combine blockchain technology, smart contracts, and Internet of Things (IoT)-based monitoring to create a decentralized and tamper-proof food supply chain ecosystem. The stakeholders of the system include farmers, processing units, distributors, retailers, consumers, and regulatory authorities and are linked together by a distributed blockchain ledger that will be implemented to share and manage data safely as well as maintain traceability. Blockchain transaction analysis, monitoring of environmental sensors, and traceability checking processes were performed as experimental implementation and performance evaluation. The received results revealed a better level of transaction security, increased accuracy of traceability, minimized the risk of data manipulation, and effective monitoring of temperature and humidity conditions during the operation of food transportation and storage. Comparison analysis also revealed the better transparency and reliability in operations as compared to the traditional traceability systems. The suggested framework plays a significant role in enhancing consumer confidence, guaranteeing the quality of food, and helping to build safe and transparent smart food supply chain management systems to be applied to the sustainable food safety in the future.
