The field of cognitive neuroscience is evolving at a very high rate owing to various innovations that promote a combination of neural processes, dynamics of behaviour, and technological breakthroughs. This article is a review of the new frontiers that are defining the new knowledge on human cognition, as multimodal brain imaging, computational modelling, machine-learning based neural decoding, neurotechnology, and brainbehavior mapping. We generalise existing results in the field of cognitive neuroscience, emphasise the interdisciplinary technological progress, and discuss the impact of new methodologies in the connexion of neural activity and the sophisticated behavioural performance. Moreover, some of the obstacles identified in the article include data complexity issues, limitation in methods and translational gaps as well as ethical implications. The suggested directions of future research are hybrid neuroimaging, AI-centered cognitive modelling, close loop brain-technology interfaces, and individualized neurocognitive profiling. This overall survey has made cognitive neuroscience be a fast developing field that is cutting across the borders of biology, computation, psychology and neurotechnology.
